The Karowe Diamond Mine is an open cut diamond mine located in Botswana near the town of Letlhakane. The mine is owned by Lucara Diamond Corporation through its subsidiary Boteti Mining.
Karowe mines a high-quality resource, that has a history of producing large gem quality diamonds, including Lesedi La Rona, the second largest gem quality diamond found to date.
In the last quarter of 2016, Moolmans agreed with Boteti Mining to conduct the Mining Services on their behalf. The contract was signed in January 2017, which included drilling and blasting, excavating, loading and hauling of waste and ore, as well as re-handle of ore into the crusher. The project was divided into three phases, with the first phase production requiring the mining of 2 million tonnes per month of waste and ore, phase two 1.4 million tonnes per month and phase three 1 million tonnes per month.
