
Jerome Govender
Managing Director
Jerome was appointed Managing Director of Moolmans in April 2019. He has more than 25 years’ experience in the Mining, Engineering, and Construction industry with solid experience in both local and international environments. Jerome’s initial focus at Moolmans was returning the business to profitability which was successfully achieved. His current focus is building sustainable growth at Moolmans.
Jerome was previously Chief Executive Officer of the Cross Yarra Partnership Project Company, an approximately AUD6 billion private public partnership (PPP) rail project in Melbourne, Australia. Prior to that, Jerome spent 15 years of his career with JSE-listed Murray & Roberts Group where he served the company in various roles including as CEO of the Murray & Roberts Construction Platform and CEO of the Bombela Concession Company responsible for delivering the Gautrain in time for the Soccer World Cup.
Jerome holds a BSc in Quantity Surveying and an MSc from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, and an MBA from Wits Business School. He has also completed executive development programmes at both Harvard Business School and NYU’s Stern School of Business.

Reg Engelbrecht
Financial Director
Reg was appointed Financial Director for Moolmans from 1 September 2020. He has more than 20 years’ experience in the Construction and Heavy Industry.
Reg joined the Aveng Group in March 2019 as the Acting Finance Director of Grinaker-LTA. Following the sale of Grinaker-LTA in November 2019 as part of the Aveng strategic action plan, Reg headed up the Aveng Project Management Office which was established to ensure that the various aspects and risks of the residual contracts, assets and businesses are dealt with and closed out in a structured way which minimises the risk to Aveng. Prior to joining the Aveng Group, Reg was the CFO of Black Rhino Group which was a Blackstone Portfolio company focused on developing large power infrastructure projects in Africa. Prior to this Reg spent 11 years at Alstom (French multinational) in various roles (Southern African CFO, MD and Deputy CEO positions) and has extensive Commercial and Financial expertise in challenging environments and large projects in the energy and rail transport sectors.
Reg holds an Honours Degree in Accounting from the University of South Africa and is a registered Chartered Accountant. Reg will continue to build on the financial discipline and bring further structure, strategic thinking and expertise to the Moolmans business.

Michael Borgstrom
Human Resource Executive
Michael transferred to Moolmans from the Aveng Group on 1 September 2019. This gives him extensive knowledge of the business, having been involved in all Aveng operations, as well as certain sub committees of the Aveng Board.
Michael has a strong background in Human Resources having spent over 16 years at De Beers, where he started his career, and then at Lonmin and BHP Billiton, and most recently at Aveng for the past six years. His strengths and passion lie with organisational effectiveness, where he believes that improvements in efficiencies, productivity and safety are brought about through clear performance metrics, accountability and positive leadership.

Julian Ford
Engineering Executive
Julian was appointed Engineering Executive from 1 November 2021. He has more than 35 years’ experience in the mining industry.
His experience in the Mining Industry covers : Engineering and Asset Management | Operational Management | Optimization | Engineering Systems & Policies | Project Management | Leadership, Coaching and Mentoring | Training and Skills Development.
He is a renowned for and excels in refining and optimizing processes in an operational context where efficiency, cost reduction and performance optimization are paramount.
Julian holds a National Diploma in Engineering, GCC Mines & Works and a GCC Factories. He has also completed a Management Development Program at Stellenbosch as well as a Advanced Management Program at GIBS.

Dewald Hattingh
Operations Executive: Open Cut Mining
Dewald completed his National Higher Diploma in Civil Engineering in 1992. He joined Africon, a Civil Engineering Consulting company, which awarded him a bursary for his studies. In 2001 Dewald joined Aveng Moolmans in West Africa. During this time, he was a Contracts Manager in Guinea, Mali and Ghana. Dewald returned to South Africa in January 2010 to take up the position of General Manager Plant for Moolmans, South African operations. He was appointed as Operations Executive and to the Executive Committee in 2010

Hendrick Olie Matjila
SHERQ Executive
Hendrick was appointed SHERQ Executive for Moolmans from 1 October 2020. He has more than 25years’ experience in the mining industry.
Most recently Hendrick served in the role of Senior Manager Safety and Sustainable Development at Venetia Mine, De Beers largest diamond mine in South Africa. Before that, he served in various technical roles in the De Beers Group going up the ranks from Plant Metallurgist, Section Head Ore Processing, Plant Manager, Principal Metallurgist, Metallurgical Manager and Assistant General Manager.
Hendrick holds a B.Sc. degree in Metallurgy from the University of the Witwatersrand and an MBA from De Montfort University. His wealth of experience in the mining industry will help transform Moolmans to consistently achieve the value of safety and care, ‘Home without harm, everyone every day’.

Siya Ngcangca
Operations Executive: Open Cut Mining
Siya was appointed Operations Executive for Moolmans from 1 November 2020. He has more than 15 years’ experience in the Mining industry with solid experience in both local and international environments.
Most recently, Siya served as the Senior Contracts Manager (Regional) in West Africa For Moolmans responsible for Lefa Gold Mine in Guinea and Taparko Gold Project in Burkina Faso. Prior to that Siya worked for Anglo Gold Ashanti in Tanzania as a Senior Mining Manager.
Siya holds a B-Tech Mining Engineering Degree from the University of Johannesburg, a PGDip in Business Management from the Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS) as well as an MBA from Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS). He has successfully completed his thesis in Theory of Constraints in open pit mining (TOC), he has a passion for innovation and implementing practical solutions to help the business achieve financial and production performance.

Robert Nicholson
Operations Executive: Open Cut and Underground Mining
Robert has a BTech Mining Engineering Degree obtained through the University of Johannesburg. He is a member of both the Association of Mine Managers South Africa (AMMSA) and the South African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (SAIMM). He has extensive experience in various operational and technical management roles, in both open cut and underground mining. He started his career with AngloGold Ashanti and worked his way up the production ranks within South Africa’s deep level gold mining industry, obtaining both his Mine Overseers’ and Mine Managers’ Certificates. He joined Moolmans at our Phoenix contract as planning manager in 2007 and was later promoted to production manager. After taking a consultancy position in Johannesburg in 2009, Robert returned to Moolmans in 2011 and is now involved with tendering on new business and responsible for the technical and planning aspects. Robert was appointed to the Executive Committee in 2012 and became the New Business Executive for Moolmans in 2015. In 2022, Robert became an Operations Executive overseeing open cut operations in the Northern Cape and has also recently been tasked with overseeing underground mining and specialised operations.

Ian Simpson
Commercial Executive
Ian was appointed Commercial Executive for Moolmans from 15 October 2021. He has more than 18 years’ experience in the legal and construction environments.
Most recently Ian was the Commercial, Legal & Risk Executive of a diversified Contractor group (Concor). Prior to this Ian practiced as an Attorney before joining Murray & Roberts where he fulfilled a number of roles.
Ian obtained an LLB and an Advanced Diploma in Labour Law from the University of Johannesburg before being admitted as an Attorney. He is a member of the Association of Arbitrators and has completed various Association arbitration courses including the Construction Law Specialization. He has also completed various leadership courses with Gibs.
Ian has the necessary skills and experience to lead the renewal of the commercial function, focused on culture, systems, controls and advice that improve performance for both Moolmans and its Customers.
