Fayala is one of three major mining areas that make up the Lefa gold mine in the remote Kankan region of Guinea. Lefa operates a typical modern open pit operation with drilling and blasting followed by load and haul allowing for selective mining of the ore.
The client was originally Kenor from Norway who sold out to Guinor, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Crew Gold of the UK in 2004.
The Moolmans contract terms required that half a million tonnes of ore and waste was moved per month. The original contract was extended from 2003 to 2006.
