Moolmans was awarded the Chimiwungo surface mining contract in April 2011 by Lumwana Mining Company, which was owned and operated by Equinox Minerals, an Australian mining company that was subsequently acquired by Toronto-listed Barrick in June 2011. Chimiwungo is located in the north-western region of Zambia, approximately 80km from the town of Solwezi.
Moolmans provided a full mining service according to client requirements, including clearing of vegetation, top soil stripping, drill and blast, and load and haul of waste and ore. In addition, re-handling of copper ore into the crusher determined battery limit.
The mining fleet comprised of 5 diggers, 36 trucks, 6 drill rigs along with the necessary ancillary and supporting equipment.
